Does anyone know of a garden furniture paint for metal that can be sprayed on over rust?

we have tried the ones you paint on but metalwork is to inracate

Does anyone know of a garden furniture paint for metal that can be sprayed on over rust?
Both Rustoleum and Krylon are good but both will flake right off if you don't do something to knock the rust off. If you don't have access to a professional bead blaster or sand blaster (and most of us don't), take a stiff wire brush to the metal, followed by acetone to clean it up before you spray it.
Reply:I agree with Wise One. It's also available in the U.S. It's good stuff.
Reply:My husband has just painted our gate with Hammerite. Used an angle grinder to remove some of the rust and old paint. It is a cast iron gate as well. It is looking great now.

Reply:tremclad. you don't need a primer. best to sand of a little first though because it would be less rough.
Reply:Hammer rite any focus or d.i.y. spray cans, needs rust to bond
Reply:Rustoleum spray paint and primer. Use a wire brush to remove as much rust as possible first, then prime and paint. If you just spray over the existing rust, any paint will be peeling before the summer is over.
Reply:Use a stiff brush to get rid of the flakes of rust and then paint with hammerite. I use it outside metal and it works a treat
