Furniture from garden tree?

We have a gorgeous willow tree in our garden which will have to come down in the near future (For all you about to admonish me, i wish it could stay up, but its becoming unsafe and damaging our house foundations!) I would love to use the wood to make some furniture for our house. How do i go about this? Who do i need to talk to? I have no idea what steps the wood has to go through before a carpenter can use it. (Apart from the obvious cutting down part!) Many thanks x

You would need to bring it to a lumber mill yard to have it stripped and will have to age to release the moisture before you can use it. It depends on how soon you need to use the wood for the furniture. They can kiln dry it, but will cost you more money. But, it would be better than leaving it outside to resist insect infestation.

Great idea.
