I have two house rabbits (both neutured) and one of them destroys the furniture. He pulls wallpaper off the walls, bites through chair legs, wires, fabric, eats the doors and doorframes and has even starting biting the stainless steel dishwasher. He is very friendly with his sister, who is no trouble at all. We have got him an outdoor hutch and 12 foot run, numerous toys, he often has free run of the garden if we are in and we play with him as often as we can - about an hour a day - we've made boxes of hay and hidden treats in the hay - am at a loss at what to do next - he's destroying our home - please help!!
How do I stop my rabbit eating the furniture?
Eat the rabbit
Reply:They have to chew to wear down the teeth. So they will not stop. Buy some PVC pipe (comes in all sizes) and cut to fit the couch and chair legs. They will also chew electric cords. The pvc pipe can be used for cords. Thread the cord threw the pcv pipe then plug them into the wall socket. When you cant supervise then dont leave them out of the cage. Put a cut tree limb in the cage or on the floor when he/she so they can chew it.
Reply:First, shoot them in the neck with a pellet rifle. Just to shock them up. If that dosent work, put them in a plastic bag and put them on a celing fan blade and crank it up wide open so they slam the wall with massive G force. That'll teach the filthy bastards.
Reply:Either remove the furniture and dishes from the house or remove the rabbit to an outdoor enclosure pen. Other than that, exchange it for a snail!
Reply:If your rabbit is distroying your furniture, I would advise you keep your rabbit outside. Put some thick twigs in your rabbits cage and it will eat that instead of your furniture. x
Reply:Put the cutie pies in the cage, or watch after them when they're out.
Reply:Put him in the pot and on the cooker.
Reply:Good question

Reply:Good luck! Chewing inappropriate items is a common problem, if you have a 'chewer' it's very hard to stop. If you can find something he loves to chew more than your household items and provide him with lots of it all over, that will help a lot. Mine like apple twigs (make sure they are organic). Also, supervise him closely when he is out free. If he starts chewing something he isn't supposed to, clap your hands and say "No". He should stop and look around, tell him what a good bunny he is and give him a tasty treat or chew like an apple twig. I had one rabbit some years ago I had to physically pick up and remove from the area to get her to stop chewing whatever she shouldn't. They do make taste deterrants that are bitter or sour (available at pet stores), I have not had success with them, but some people do. All wires in your house that they can access need to be covered. Some people have success with the soft plastic tubing used for fish tanks, slitting that and covering their cords. Mine bite through that, so I use a hard plastic black corrugated split tubing (some electronics or home-improvement stores carry, online rabbit supply places will sell it as well) for cords that aren't along the walls, and a hard plastic cord organizer that sticks above the baseboard for cords running along the wall. They also make a clear plastic coating that is infused with citrus that tastes icky, but it is quite expensive. Check out this site for more info about stopping chewing: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/chewi... and this one for houseproofing information: http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/rabbi...
Reply:rabbits should always be supervised while they are out loose. they could get electrocuted or get hurt (and as you have learned, they will eat all of your nice stuff).
they make a bitter spray especially for small animals, spray that on chair legs and other rabbit level items and they will start to avoid them when you are watching them, but they still should be supervise.
