Why are cats popular pets?

We've had cats in the past, none at the moment, and they always seem to harass to be in or out even if there's a door or window open for them, they puke behind radiators from the window sill, they scratch furniture, kill things or bring them home alive, poop in peoples gardens, and generally have an air of 'I'm better than you' about them. What is the attraction of these critters?

Why are cats popular pets?
A well-chosen, well cared-for cat is the best animal companion you can find.

They do, however, like to wander about at will, and persist in dirtying people's gardens. They usually pick the gardens of particularly fussy people who don't like their owners. If they are loyal cats, they pick these particular gardens for a good reason.

Cats, you must understand, have a rather acerbic wit. This is why they like to leap out from behind furniture and attack you.

When it comes to scratching furniture, this happens because your cat expects to have his very own furniture: a carpet-covered tower that is best placed next to your usual chair, a perch from which he can join in conversation, watch TV, and be petted. If you buy one from a pet store, it may be more expensive than any furniture you have. As far as the cat's concerned, that's tough. Cats are not particularly responsible about money.

One has to be careful about one's choice of entertainment. Cats do not like loud voices or loud noises. They do not like rock and roll music or any of its spawn. They prefer soft, pretty tunes. They dislike action movies, and would, if they had opposable thumbs, change the channel to an animal show or classic musical, with pretty songs sung in high, pure voices. My cat just loves My Fair Lady.

Cat regurgitation is a common problem. Generally, it's due to boredom, which, as in humans, leads to gorging. If your cat upchucks behind the radiator, he is exceptionally considerate. In general, a cat will pick a white or beige rug, and make a good-sized mess in the middle of the room.

The way to prevent this is to avoid leaving out too much food. One must also check the quality of kitty's cuisine. According to cats, the best food is high-quality canned tuna packed in water. Ocassionally, they appreciate mashed, raw egg yolk. Meat should be raw, fish cooked.

Your cat, if he could talk, would ask you to check the label on his food: the first ingredient should be meat, fish, or their by-products, not corn meal.

If you have a cat, and do not pay proper attention to him, he will indeed develop an aloof, unfriendly attitude.

You would do the same.

On the other hand, if you pick a cat that seems naturally trusting from the start, and treat it very well, it will respond with love and loyalty. He will generally want to be near you, and will follow you from one room to another. If there is more than one person in the household, he will be disturbed if you are in different rooms.

This is why, in the early morning, after my adorable little Wolfgang has been fed and had all his needs attended to by my devoted partner, Wolfie will come into the bedroom and bash me in the face with his paw: he is upset that my partner and I are on different sides of the house.

These early-morning displays of affection are among the greatest joys of cat ownership, I tell Wolfie as I kick him out of the bedroom and slam the door.

Reply:They're soft and furry, they give lots of love, but also have independant personalities.

So they chuck a bit, so do babies.........

they scratch furniture, babies scribble on walls. and as for pooping!!!!!!!!!! there IS cat litter!!!

the killing of things and bringing them in, well, I don't think cats should be allowed to roam free, they DO murder defenseless wildlife, they can live quite happily indoors, or in a cat park, (large cages linked with arial tunnels.)

One of mine is curled up on my lap right now as I am sitting here.

There's nothing as comforting as a cats purr when your'e feeling a bit "blue"
Reply:Cats are very intelligent and interesting animals. They can be very loving and are a lot more easier to take care of than dogs. Yes, they do things that can be annoying but what animal or person doesn't annoy you sometimes? The good out weighs the bad by a long shot. I have had cats for years and can't imagine my life without them.
Reply:they are clean and easy to take care of.
Reply:unfortunately cats can be left alone when people are out %26amp; about living their busy lives while dogs have to be let out to relieve themselves or have a doggy-door handy. that's a big reason they're so popular with people despite their attitudes. cats, especially 'outdoor' ones, do have a tendency to tear up your neighbor's yards, bring dead, bloody animals back to your doorstep, %26amp; basically do just about whatever they want. the doing whatever they want is in the cat's nature, no matter if it's an indoor or outdoor cat %26amp; if you don't like it you're either going to have to work to train that cat (yes, it can be done with patience %26amp; work) not to do the things you don't like, accept the cat for the things it does %26amp; the attitude it has, or give it to someone else to put up with.

if you want a more affectionate animal try a dog, you'll still have to train it but they're much easier to train than a cat. if you watch what breed you get you can get a dog that isn't so rambunctious so you don't have to worry about your furniture, carpet, ect. in my opinion dogs are the only way to go- they love you no matter what %26amp; are loyal til the end. i've had two dogs (mixed breeds) from the humane society %26amp; they've been the smartest dogs with the best personalities i've ever had. not only are you saving an animal's life when you get them from the humane society, you're also adding a greatful, happy, loving member to your family.
Reply:Because when you get one to love you, you've accomplished something. The cat says- "Yes I am descended from ancient goddesses and my kind is better than your kind and I am supposed to be a solitary hunter and live in the wild and free, but there is something about you I like. And will make an exception for.
Reply:Because you love them despite the obvious drawbacks ! I have two, they are cute and cuddly and don't need walkies on a cold rainy day. Ok they do bring up hairballs, one pinches off my dinner plate and the other craps behind the door if the litter tray is dirty but - despite these {minor?} peccadilloes I wouldn't be without them.
Reply:My cat isn't like that at all i'm afraid! She's my baby and I just love her! Can't explain it really but she's part of my family and I wouldn't be without her.
Reply:naver happend none of the things you said maybe it depends on the cat
Reply:Lets look at the good points of dogs;

1. Loyal and compassionate, they actually respond when you arrive at home.

2. They can guard your home.

3. They can do tricks.

4. Dogs have been known to defend there owners even if the owner has died.

5. Dogs, on top of all this, are cute.

Now, the good points of cats...

1. They are cute.
Reply:probably cos there small and you can sit them on your lap! other things ppl like cats for is they can be very independent so you dont have to look after them alot and they can clean themselves very well. oo plus if you had mice cats like mice lmao!
Reply:oh... are they!

hate them
Reply:there small and less annoying than dogs
Reply:they 're cuddly, small and sooo cute!

but the point is that cats are not 'popular' pets! it depends on what people think about cats and esp. how they want their pets to be. cats are very beautiful animals- at least the most of them- and have sth mysteriously that fascinates people. they provide their owner a sense of (love?). for example: let's just say that someone has a cat, when he returns tired and stressed from work it would be very pleasant for him to find his little city ready to sit on his knees and play with him. and if you don't let them out at night and make sure that you give them tasty food every day they don't bring 'things' at home. I think that you should buy a cat and you'll understand how cute and 'lovefull' these small naughty creatures are.
Reply:well, if you don't like your cat, sell it to a chinese restraunt. Here's an educational video that'll teach you the importance of cats to chinese restraunts.

Reply:because not all cats r like urs...i have 4, 4 month old kittens and they r cuddley and warm and i love them to death...but i mean if ur not a cat person then thats u but most cats r better cats depends on the way they r raised...
Reply:they do their own thing, dont need walking, i love cats.
Reply:My cat only used to sit by the door if she wanted to go out or in, and never did any of the other things. If she wanted to be sick she would run to the kitchen and be sick in there which i didn't mind as this was the only floor in the house that was tiles and easy to clean. She used a litter tray so never pooed in next doors garden and only used to scratch the wooden borders to my flower beds and not my furniture. i must of trained her well.
Reply:They're extrmeley clean - bury their own crap and don't eat it like dogs do. Don't need walking all the time.

Small and independent - but I know what you mean - you do get the clinger-ons

Get a dog instead
Reply:cause they r common and 99% in everyones home..............
Reply:You know that when you get love and affection from a cat that you have earned it - a dog will love you even if you ignore it. If you like a challenge get a cat , if you like blind adoration get a mut.
Reply:well cats are like that! they just want to have lots of fun
Reply:cats are so cute and are easier to take care of. not like dogs, aways walking them.!
Reply:kats are cool cuz they are sheathly, independant %26amp; quiet.

Reply:1) They make for good target practice.

2) You can get a cat for free

3) If they become road pancakes you can use a shovel to scoop them up

4) People love to have their home smell like cat pee

5) There is something romantic about having a cat hack up hairballs on your bed

6) No one ever worries why they haven't seen it for the last two weeks

7) When they go in heat you are serenaded all night long.

There are just so many reasons to have a cat !

:o)
Reply:"they puke behind radiators from the window" - haven't had that problem

"kill things or bring them home alive" - gaving you a present - a sign of love.

Cats to me are much better than babies you don't have the constant crying of the brats.
Reply:they are cool...protect you in your home of small envied guess
Reply:They are cute and cuddly and really if they don't go outside then they won't bring home dead stuff.
Reply:they r low maint. pets.
Reply:They pretty much are easy to care for. Just feed, change the litter box, brush hair, and give affection. They are great for people in apartments. Dogs must be walked and are too rambunctious.
